Bayfield hosts June 2 Alice Munro Festival events

   Bayfield Town Hall will play host to the June 2 activities of the Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story, dedicated to Huron County’s Nobel Literature Award winner Alice Munro.

   Bayfield Town Hall will host author readings of Witches of New York by Ami McKay and Little Fish by  Casey Plett from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday. From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Emma Donoghue will read from her new novel The Wonder, and Scaachi Koul will read from One Day We’ll All Be Dead and None of This Will Matter.  

   An author’s lunch and reading takes place at the Bayfield Town Hall from 12:30 to 2 p.m. featuring Madeleine Thien, whose novel, Do Not Say We Have Nothing, won the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction, the Edward Stanford Prize; and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction, and The Folio Prize.

   An author panel will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. featuring Emma Donoghue, Scaachi Koul and Casey Plett  on the theme Girls Don’t Slam Doors.

   For writers, there will be two master classes at the Bayfield Library on that day. Beginning at 9 a.m. Sarah Meehan Sirk will discuss Getting Out Of Your Own Way. In the afternoon, beginning at 2:30, Johanna Skibsrud will discuss The Act of Writing.

   On June 3, events of the festival will be held in Munro’s hometown of Wingham.
