Elementary School Fair to choose ambassador Saturday night
BY DENNY SCOTT
The Elementary School Fair ambassador evening, set for this Saturday, will determine who represents the school fair for its 99th iteration.
Starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Belgrave Community Centre, the event will highlight the activities of outgoing ambassador James Speer, then invite contestants to speak on the theme of the fair, “Celebrating Everyday Canadian Heroes” for three to five minutes before the next ambassador is crowned.
“We encourage anyone and everyone to get involved,” fair board chair Alice McDowell said. “It’s open to students in Grade 4 to 8, and we’re looking for someone to be a representative of the fair.”
McDowell said the position, like the fair, is a unique one because, unlike other fairs, the Elementary School Fair is a stand-alone entity.
“We aren’t connected with an agricultural society or outside organization,” she said. “We’re not part of a larger fair. There are lots of school fairs, but those are part of larger events. Our fair is unique in that it is only student work, student-grown produce and student activities at the event.”
Emcee for the evening will be former Ambassador Abigail Peel.
