Buying the Rings
A girl's best friend
There are many things to be considered when shopping for an engagement ring
Trends and styles come and go over the years, so it’s important to buy a ring that will be important and sentimental to the couple for decades.
Styles now are generally set in white gold, but yellow gold is coming back in a big way.
With the term “bling” on the upswing, the more stones in a ring, the more eye-catching it tends to be.
Princess cuts (square) are in, however, round cut diamonds are elegant and classic.
Diamonds are graded by cut, colour, clarity and finally the carat weight. Cut is most important.
As the diamond gets bigger and the cost remains low, to the naked eye and more prominently under a microscope, the diamond will be revealed to be dull and lifeless.
The life and brilliance of the diamond is what women are often looking for in an engagement ring. However, from a man’s eyes, a case full of diamonds may all look the same to him, so it’s important to visit a reputable jewellery store.
Often the bride-to-be will give the man an idea of what she likes, leave him with some ideas, some options, then some room to make the final decision himself.
In addition to that assistance, some jewellery stores offer a layaway program where the ring can be customized and purchased and then held for the buyer after a down payment is made and the rest of the cost is paid over time.
Another advantage to having purchased your ring at a store you know is that the maintenance shouldn’t be a problem.
Get your engagement ring cleaned and checked twice annually, so after the ceremony and down the road, predictable wear and tear don’t result in the loss of the ring’s diamond.
